reverb10 prompt for the day: “December 11 – 11 Things What are 11 things your life doesn’t need in 2011? How will you go about eliminating them? How will getting rid of these 11 things change your life? (Author: Sam Davidson)”
Oh… December 11th, the year 2011… I get it. Here’s what I’ll work on ridding myself of in no particular order (except the weight before the run… the other way around would be stupid, stupid!):
1) Facebook Event Invitations! – I will no longer be paying attention to these. Looking at them quickly overwhelm me. And in order not to be a hypocrite, I will no longer be creating them. Instead, I am going to continue working on the personal e-mailing and start trying an older method some of you may have heard of called the telephone.
2) Worry - “worry is a misuse of imagination” – Dan Zadra
3) 5 minutes off of my 2009 half-marathon time – I have been working hard on my injury re-hab and last week decided to set a goal of running the Goodlife Half-Marathon in May. My 2009 time was 1hr 54min 38sec (chip time), so I will be trying shave 5 minutes off. Of course one of the best ways to do that brings me to…
4) 5lbs. – that would be 5lbs. I don’t need (i.e. fat). Losing fat is also a great way to improve your pull-ups. Seems painfully obvious but was an “a-ha” moment for me!
5) the stress response – I’ll be continuing my prodigious exploration of relaxation. Lying on the floor listening to records, and basically not charging the TTC doors of life.
6) processed food from my diet - I won’t be going cold tofurkey on this but slowly and surely. I think a good way to do this would be to pick a maximum number of label ingredients to allow myself.
7) word-mincing – I aspire to be the straight-talker that this world needs more of.
8 ) half-read books from my shelf - A Power Stronger Than Itself and Gormenghast trilogy I’m looking at you.
WARNING: serious part of this list ends now…

9) the empty space on my CV next to “B.Mus.” – hey-o! I’ll be graduating in May unless I screw up too badly. And to this end, I will be eliminating…
10) avoid notes – no more F natural on a C major chord for this be-spectacled jazzhead!
11) lists – LOL! I’m sure nobody in the entire #reverb10 challenge made this joke!
see you tomorrow.
Hey man
Good list! I’m super-impressed by your half-marathon time! I’m planning on running the Goodlife in May as well! I ran for the first time this fall and was 2:00:45. I’m hoping to get to your time!
I’m enjoying your blog…keep up the good work
Hello to a vegan in Toronto from a vegetarian considering veganism in Brooklyn
I’m also a fellow reverber. Anyhoo, about the relaxation response – good for you! Have you tried restorative yoga? It is all about evoking a relaxation response, and it’s very powerful. Here’s a great article about it: http://www.kripalu.org/kyta_artcl.php?id=368
I just got back from a restorative yoga teacher training at Kripalu. My teacher, Jillian Pransky, has a CD out called “Relax More” that offers a guided relaxation – another great way to relax.

[...] To continue my improved reading habit. I haven’t finished the half-read books on my shelf as I said I would last year. Wow… I am actually still on page 100 of the first book of the Gormenghast Trilogy. [...]
